Listen and describe

Write down whether the remote produces a response, whether the opener makes a sound, and whether the door moves. Those observations do not prove which component has failed.

Avoid diagnostic shortcuts

Do not disconnect, lift or manipulate a damaged door to test a theory. The opener and door system need to work together safely; replacement of one part may not address a mechanical issue.

Ask what was checked

Request an explanation of the diagnosis, the proposed remedy and the safety checks included after service. Ask whether the existing opener and door are compatible with any replacement.
